Prisons, GSU crowned volleyball champs

18 November 2013, 13:34

Nairobi - Kenya Prisons and the General Service Unit GSU were crowned the Kenya National volleyball champions at the Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi Sunday.

Prisons retained their crown in the women's sector after seeing off Kenya Pipeline by three sets to no reply (3-0, 25-14, 25-14, 25-18), while GSU beat Prisons (3-1, 23-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-23) in the men's final for the respective title.

It was an easier than expected win for Prisons in the women's final and captain Diana Khisa was elated with the results.

" We have worked hard for this win. Our record has not been great this year but we have worked as well as we can and won the title again. Thanks be to God.

In the men's final, GSU recovered from losing a tight first set to nail the title and dethrone their rivals, winning three consecutively difficult sets.

Prisons were unusually sloppy in their finishing and were made to pay by a determined GSU side.

In the other matches on the day, Nairobi Water defeated KCB 3-2 to win third place in the women's category with Forest Rangers defetaing KDF 3-1 to pick up third place in the men's category.
