Peroni claim Nairobi Polo trophy

30 June 2014, 15:00

Nairobi - Peroni won the Division A Horseman Trophy title at the Samsung Galaxy Nairobi Polo tournament on Sunday after beating Keringet 5-4.5 in a tense final.

Martin Kaiser was the star of the show for the eventual winners of the three-day event – which took place at the Nairobi Polo Club – having hit the target in each of Peroni’s chukkas on the final day.

Although the result remained in the balance for most of the match, Peroni were in control of their fate for the majority as Kaiser, Tiva Gross, Chris Foot and Ruth Horsey dictated terms.

“We played well. I’m glad I linked well with my team mates. Our good marking helped us beat a good side,” the 38-year-old Kaiser, who competed on a horse imported from South Africa, said after the event.

The second goal he scored on the day was a 30-yard penalty after umpire Mbu Ngugi ruled that Horsey was infringed.
