Oscar out for rest of the year

21 May 2013, 08:32

Johannesburg - Paralympian Oscar Pistorius will not compete again this year as he awaits trial for murder, despite receiving a number of meeting invitations.

Pistorius stands accused of premeditated murder after the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his Pretoria home.

He was released on bail of R1m. He will be back in the North Gauteng High Court on 4 June.

EWN reports that the Paralympian star's coach Ampie Louw confirmed that they have turned down invitations to take part in major international athletic events.

“We have decided as a team we are not  talking [about] any training or athletics. We have postponed [races] for the whole year,” Louw said.

He went onto say that Pistorius was not in the correct frame of mind to return to competitive action.

“He is nowhere close to being in a position to train. He just does fitness exercises in the morning with his family.”

Reports suggested that shortly after Pistorius was released on bail, that he resumed training and even had his bail conditions altered in order to allow him to compete.
