Nairobi - Star Kenyan winger Dennis Ombachi has been ruled out of the Moscow Rugby World Cup Sevens after getting injured in the team's final training session in Nairobi before they departed for London.
According to Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), Ombachi is scheduled for an operation after he injured his knee during his team's training sessions.
The squad is currently in Britain for a 10-day closed training camp before they depart for Moscow on Tuesday for the World Cup.
"It is of course crushing not to be going to the World Cup. It is every player's dream to represent his country at this competition," Ombachi who plays for local side Mwamba RFC told the union website.
"I have come to terms with the injury and the fact that I will miss the World Cup but rest assured I will come back even stronger after surgery. I wish my team mates all the best and I believe that they are capable of going all the way in Moscow."
Ombachi was one of Kenya's key players during the 2012/2013 HSBC Sevens World Series, putting out a series of match winning performances across the season.
Kenya is grouped in Pool C with Samoa, Zimbabwe and the Philippines.
