Olympic opening ceremony shortened to help late night travellers

The opening ceremony for the London Olympic Games on July 27 has been
shortened to allow the tens of thousands of spectators to get home on
the public transport network, organising committee LOCOG said Wednesday.
A spokesman said a sequence involving stunt bikes would be cut from the
show, scheduled to run from 2000 GMT to between 2300 and 2330 GMT at the
Olympic stadium in Stratford, east London.
An audience of about 62 000 is expected at the venue, while as many as a
billion people are estimated to watched the ceremony on their TV
