Nyayo hosts junior athletics trials

Nairobi - Kenya's best youth athletes will assemble at the Nyayo Stadium today for the start World Youth Championships team trials.
A team of 26 athletes born between 1998 and 1999 will be selected
after the trials ends on Wednesday to represent Kenya in Cali, Colombia
Barnabas Korir, Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi branch chairman and AK
youth development head, told the Star newspaper that Kenya needed to put
in a strong performance in Cali.
“Kenya will be hosting the World Youth Championships in 2017 and it
is important that we do well in Colombia to set the pace,” said Korir.
“We will focus on ensuring we qualify field event athletes to ensure we are covered in all the events.”
Sandrafelis Chebet and Emily Chebet, the respective Africa 2 000
metres steeplechase and Africa 3 000m champions, are two of the biggest
names in action at the trials.
Kenya will be looking to improve on their performance at the previous
World Youth Championships in Donetski, Ukraine where they won four
