Mwamba clinches inaugural women's rugby league title

Nairobi - Mwamba secured the first Kenya Rugby Union women's league tournament
with an emphatic 26-7 win over Kenya Commercial Bank in the final
fixture of the season.
The side began the game on level footing in the league standings
after a round-robin tournament in which all the teams played each other
The Bankers began the game brightly and were on the scoreboard early
through a Philadelphia Olando try, which she converted herself, to make
the score 7-0.
However, Mwamba regrouped through a quick-fire hattrick by Celestine
Masinde, of which Janet Owino converted two, to move the Kulabu Ladies
into a 19-7 lead at half time.
Mwamba did not allow KCB back in the game after the break and
continued to dominate proceedings in the second half with Sinaida Aura
adding the their fourth try of the afternoon, which was converted by
Owino to settle the game at 26-7.
The finished the season on 53 points with KCB second on 49 points and Quins some way off the pace in third on 28 points.
"I'm happy the league has taken off and we have had five committed
teams. We are looking at having more teams next year," said KRU director
in charge of women's rugby Paula Lanco.
