More cash at Kisii Half Marathon

Kisii - Athletics Kenya has announced an increase in prize money for the Safaricom Kisii Half Marathon which takes place in Kisii Town on Friday.

Peter Angwenyi, chairman of the Nyanza South region of Athletics Kenya (AK), told The Star that not only the race winners would receive cash prizes.

“All the top 10 runners and the top 10 runners from Nyanza South region will get awards,” Angwenyi added.

“We want to award local runners so that we inspire them.”

The prize money for the men’s and women’s race winners has been increased from Sh50000 to Sh60000. The silver medalists will earn Sh30000 each, while the bronze medalists bag Sh20000 each.

The fourth-place runners will go home with Sh15000, while fifth will pocket Sh10 000.

Angwenyi said more than 300 athletes are expected at to take part in the race, which forms part of the Safaricom Athletics Series.

“Preparations for the event are complete and we expect a huge turn-out of athletes from Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Mara, Kericho, Kapsait Nike Camp and Nyahururu,” he said.

The race will start and finish at Kisii Primary School.
