Mitei and Kibarus victorious

Nairobi - Amos Kiplimo Mitei and Mercy Kibarus were crowned the champions of the Kecoso Half Marathon on Sunday.

Mitie raced to the front of the field and crossed the line in 1:02:38, while Kirui Chesang just edged Solomon Kirwa by three seconds to get get second place with a time of 1:12:56.

In the ladies race, Kibarus broke the course record by over nine minutes, finishing in a time of 1:12:57.

"I had to break away to give myself a chance to win by a big margin. I was using this race to gauge my form," Kibarus told standardmedia.co.ke.

"The weather favoured me a lot, I ran in the same style as I had planned after preparing for this race for about a week.

The winners each take home the Sh250 000 main prize.
