Lorna Kiplagat to be honoured in Boston

Nairobi - Legendary athlete, Lorna Kiplagat will be awarded the first
ever “Bingwa” Lifetime achievement award in Boston.
The four-time World Champion, who was also held World records in 5 kilometers, 10 Mile, 20 kilometers and Half Marathon will be feted at the 4th annual Dinner with Champions on 19 April.
The athlete is also recognizes promotes running-based tourism through the High Altitude Training Camp in Iten.
“Lorna represents the future of athletes in Kenya,” said Wilson Wahome, founder and CEO of RUN with KENYANS, the organization helping put together the event. “We want to see our athletes create opportunities beyond winning races. Lorna has not only created opportunities for herself but also for many in her community,” he added.
The event is held to honor elite runners who run in the Boston Marathon and is a joint effort between the Kenyan community in Boston and the embassy in DC.
“It’s great when we can all come together to celebrate something that we’re really good at,” said Ruth Kilungu, a Boston resident who has been to all three previous dinners.
Among the chief guests this year will be Ambassador Jean Kamau, the Charge D’affair.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga presided the first Dinner with Champions in April 2011.
