Locals favourites at tennis Championships

Nairobi - Kenyan duo of Kevin Cheruiyot and Ibrahim Kibet have emerged as the hot favourites to clinch the ongoing the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Kenya Junior Championships following impressive performances at the tournament.
In their last match, the duo put on a star performance at Nairobi Club when they trounced Anirudh Satishchandra and Manav Pondkule of India in doubles to progress to the semi-final of played.
The Kenyans, who meant business from the onset romped to victory 6-3, 7-6 straight sets.
Another Kenyan, United States-based Mwenda Mbithi, teamed up with Jerome Romauldez of Philippines to dismiss Omar Ahmed of Saudi Arabia and Dawood Hashim of Kuwait 7-5 7-3.
Mbithi, who is also enjoying a professional stint in the States, thrashed Amarnath Arora of India 6-3 6-3 in a singles tie.
Apart from the impressive victories posted by Kenyans, South Africa's Nelise Verster beat Devanshi Bhimjiyani of India 6-1 6-1 to book place in the girls' singles semi-final.
Kenya recorded so many victories while others lost in the tournament that exposed the country's potential in other sporting disciplines.
The Kenya Junior ITF championships also attracted other tennis players drawn from South Africa, Philippines, Russia, US, Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, India, anzania, Burundi, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Ukrain and Lesotho among others.
The tournament ends on Friday.
