Kipsang aims to defend New York marathon title

16 September 2015, 12:41

Nairobi - Wilson Kipsang is targeting a title defence at the 2015 New York City Marathon on November 1.

However, the Kenyan superstar will face stiff competition from Ethiopian duo Lelisa Desisa and Gebremariam, who finished second and third at the 2014 event.

"My training is going very well and I am very happy to come back to race the streets of New York City again and defend my title," revealed the 33, who is the only marathoner to have run under 2:05 six times.

Meanwhile, race director Peter Ciaccia is thrilled to have such a competitive line-up in New York.

"We're thrilled to welcome back our defending champion Wilson Kipsang, along with Meb Keflezighi, America's top marathoner, and this year's Boston Marathon champion, Lelisa Desisa, for the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon," he said.
