Kiprop welcomes Eldoret track construction

14 November 2014, 13:06

Nairobi - World 1,500 metres champion Asbel Kiprop has welcomed the construction of a tartan track at Eldoret's Kip Keino Stadium.

Kiprop and other athletes from the region have been forced to a soil track at Chepkoilel up until now.

He said that the tartan track would make a huge different to training during the rainy season.

“Training during (the) rainy season has been a big menace. Most athletes have had to brave muddy courses on roadsides,” Kiprop told the Daily Nation.

“It was all a challenge, but the eventual laying of the tartan track is a big relief.”

Work on the track started this week and it is expected to be completed by the end of December and fully ready for use by January.

Once complete, the track will be the first public facility of its kind outside of Nairobi.
