Kiplimo strikes gold at Diamond run

18 August 2014, 19:03

Nairobi - Amos Kiplimo pocketed KES 250 000 and a diamond after winning the inaugural CPF Nairobi Diamond 10km run on Sunday.

Kiplimo finished the race in 27:42 after outpacing Edwin Kiptoo and Vincent Yator in the final stretch. Kiptoo finished second in 27:43.7 and Yator was third in 27:44.6.

“It’s all about being patient and waiting for the right time to make the kill,” said Kiplimo told the Daily Nation.

“I decided to test their strength when I upped the momentum after the 8km mark but there response was weak hence I knew victory was mine.”

The 23-year-old says he has his sights on representing Kenya on the track and at the Cross Country World Championships next year.

“I want to try my luck and see if I will get a ticket in Kenya team for the World Cross next year as well as track 5,000m,” he said.

Kiplimo also won the 10 km races at last year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon and Sotokoto Half Marathon.

Berlin Marathon champion Florence Kiplagat also took home the cash and diamond after she won the women’s race in Nairobi.
