Kimetto favourite for IAAF award

Nairobi - Kenyan marathon sensation Dennis Kimetto and Ethiopia's middle and
long-distance runner Genzebe Dibaba are expected to walk away with the
honours at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)
gala awards in Monaco on Friday.
Kimetto recently broke the world marathon record by 26 seconds, posting a time of 2:02:57 at the Berlin marathon.
He faces stiff competition from pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie from
France and Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim for the Male Athlete of the Year.
Barshim posted the second best height ever - 2,43m - in the men's
high jump and continuously threatened Javier Sotomayor's second during
his duel with Bogdan Bondarenko.

Frenchman Lavillenie broke legendary Sergey Bubka's pole vault record
of 6,15m, clearing 6.16 at the same event as the Ukranian recorded his
Dibaba was nominated for the women's award alongside New Zealand's
shot putter Valerie Adams and Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers.
Other gongs that will be awarded on the night include trophies for
Rising Stars, Coach of the Year, Distinguished Career and an induction
into the Hall of Fame for 12 legendary athletes.
