Kimetto back in action after record breaking run

24 October 2014, 14:38

Nairobi - World marathon record holder Dennis Kimetto is set to follow in the footsteps of a long-distance running legend when he competes at the Montferland Run in Heerenberg, Netherlands in December.

The race will be his first since breaking the world record at the Berlin Marathon in September, just as it was for Kimetto’s countryman and previous record holder Wilson Kipsang after he broke the record in 2013 and just as it was for Haile Gebrselassie in 2007 after he set a new record.

Gebrselassie went on to win in Holland, while Kipsang finished fifth and Kimetto will be hoping to emulate the Ethiopian instead of his compatriot.

Kimetto will not be the only world record holder taking part in the race. Women’s marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe will also be taking part.

This will be the first time in the 18-year history of the race that both the men’s and women’s world record holders take part.
