Kilei, Kipkoechi win Kenya Airways race

07 October 2013, 15:05

Narok - Caroline Cheptanui Kilei and Leonard Kipkoech won the Kenya Airways Maasai Mara Marathon.

The event was held at the Lamek Conservation in the Extensive Narok County.

Kilei and Kipkoech were rewarded KES 500 000 each for winning the women's and men's events respectively.

The second runners up in both men and women category banked KES 200, 000 while the third runners up took home KES 100, 000.

Kilei, the 2011 Boston Marathon winner, rallied from behind to win the race that assured her of a place in next year’s London Marathon that is scheduled for April.

Kipkoech was dominant in the men's race.

The event further saw a number of other athletes qualify for the same event set for the British capital.

The other qualifiers are Faith Jeruto, David Oloisan and Ezra Sang.

“This airline will sponsor five athletes to participate in the 2014 London Marathon set for April next year,” said Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer, Titus Naikuni.
