Kenyan skaters to miss world championships

04 September 2015, 13:04

Nairobi - The Kenyan skating team may not be able to travel to the 2015 World Roller Speed Skating Championships next month in Oostende, Belgium due to financial restraints.

Kenya Skating Club acting patron, Dr. Stephen Koskei, has pleaded to the government and any supporters to help them go to Belgium and said that the mood from the national skating camp would obviously be sad.

"We appeal to the government and well-wishers to support this team so that they can participate in the competition," he told the-star.co.ke.

"Skipping the event would no doubt demoralise skaters, who have taken the discipline as their career."

If they do end up going to the World Skating Championships, Koskei mentions that they will go there with a winning mentality despite having so many setbacks already.

"We are going for the victory in the world event despite several hitches including training facilities and lack of funds," he added.
