Nairobi - Kenya will not have any male representatives at the Africa Hockey Club
Championships which take place in Zimbabwe later this month.
Kenya Police and Butali Sugar Warriors qualified for the
Championships by winning the national league and finishing as runners up
However, both teams have now withdrawn from the tournament for different reasons.
Tom Ondeng, coach of Kenya Police, told the Daily Nation that the
government had no funds to sponsor the team’s trip to Bulawayo.

" It is really sad, because we had prepared well for the event and the
boys were looking forward for the event but I guess we shall plan for
next time," Ondeng said.
While Cliffe Okello, Warriors coach, said the club withdrew because
it felt that it would not be able to challenge for the title.
" We felt that we would not play to our best in a tournament of such a
magnitude having just started playing competitively recently," Okello
The only Kenyan representatives at the tournament will be Telkom
Orange, the national women’s champions and defending African champions,
and Strathmore Scorpions, the women’s league runners up.
