Nairobi - Interim coach Felix Ochieng lauded his players after they put on a brilliant show to win the Safaricom Sevens this past weekend.
The Shujaa side demolished Australia 40-7 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani to lift the cup.
“It was good to win today and some of the players have really come out,” the Kenyan coach said.
He singled out Billy Odhiambo for praise.
“We have seen Billy play really well, raising his hands up for selection in the National Sevens team ahead of the Gold Coast Sevens in Australia,” added Ochieng.
Meanwhile Moran, who were Kenya’s second-string side, finished fourth after losing to Western Province of South Africa.
Grenoble beat Western Bulls 12-10 in the Bowl competition while Uganda smashed Homeboyz Rugby 33-0 in the shield contest.
The event went on as planned despite the chilling reports of terrorist attack at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi that claimed lives of over 70 people and injured more than 175.
More than 30 000 rugby enthusiasts turned out at Kasarani amid tight security around the area.
