Nairobi - The Kenya junior ladies team beat Cameroon to win the volleyball gold
medal at the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo on Monday.
The junior team had to be sent to the Games as the senior team were
sent to the Federation of International Volleyball World Cup in Japan.
However, the young girls showed maturity to beat Egypt in the
semi-final to set up the gold medal match against Cameroon, who they
lost to during the group stages.
Paul Gitau, the team coach, said that his team recovered well to
defeat the Cameroonians, which was contested at the Indoor Gymnasium in
the heart of Brazzaville.
"This is a sweet win after using young school girls in this
competition. This means we have many players who are capable of
performing well," he told xinhuanet.com.
Interestingly, the last time Kenya won the title at the All Africa Games was back 1999 in South Africa.
Egypt claimed the bronze medal by beating Seychelles 3-0 in the third place play-off.
