Kenya unveils continental rugby 7s squad

Nairobi - Kenya named a provisional squad of 17 to defend their continental rugby sevens crown in Harare, Zimbabwe on the weekend of Nov. 29 and 30.
The side which is training under the tutelage of former Kenya Sevens vice captain Gibson Weru will be whittled down to 12 ahead of departure, Kenya Rugby Union announced in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Local club Mwamba RFC utility back Shaban Ahmed is among the players who made the team that consists of players not in the reckoning for the IRB World Sevens Series that is currently preparing to tour Dubai and South Africa for the second and third legs of the competition under South African head coach, Paul Treu.

Kenya's biggest competition will come from South Africans Namibia who included four members of their senior team currently on tour in France.
Russell van Wyk, David Philander, Johan Tromp and Darryl De La Harpe are in the 12 man squad for the tournament with five of the players in the squad having played international rugby for their nation.
The continental event is the front runner of next year's African Olympic Qualification tournament that will determine who will represent the continent at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The other teams participating in the tournament are: South Africa (SARU Academy), Botswana, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Uganda and the hosts Zimbabwe.
