Kenya to host volleyball Africa Nations Cup tournament

Nairobi - Kenya will stage the volleyball Africa Nations Cup tournament in June and May for both women's and men's competition.
The week-long tournament, which attracts over 20 teams, will be held in Nairobi, where the top three teams will secure tickets to compete at the World Cup later in November.
"It is an honor for the Confederation of African Volleyball ( CAVB) to grant us the rights to host the Africa Cup. It gives the country an advantage to compete at the World Cup," said Evans Wasike, the Kenya Volleyball Federation secretary general.
The women's FIVB World Cup will be held in Japan while the men' s event will be staged in Poland.
Both tournaments will be in November, where the top four teams will be the first to secure automatic qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics Games.
Kenya finished 12 in the last tournament, also in Japan in 2011 ahead of Algeria and Thailand.
Apart from the Africa Nations Cup and World Cup, the Kenyan teams have a busy program, where they also have to compete in the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo in September, the World Grand Prix league and the beach volleyball competitions.

The Men's edition of the Africa Nations Cup is set for May 15- 25 with the women's event will be held June 10-20 in Nairobi.
The African Volleyball Federation (CAVB) also faces a highly busy year in 2015, with continental events.
The 2015 CAVB Calendar includes eleven volleyball events at the age group, senior and FIVB levels beside the Olympic qualifications for Rio de Janeiro 2016.
The beach volleyball calendar that includes the different phases of the CAVB Continental Cup which will also act as an Olympic qualification beside the African qualifications for the Senior Beach volleyball World Championship in Netherlands.
