Nairobi - The Kenya Under-18 rugby side will now battle Fiji for the Youth Olympics bronze medal Wednesday after their elimination at the semifinal stage.
The juniors gave a spirited performance against Argentina in a match they eventually lost 19-12 Tuesday.
The Argentines raced into a 14-0 lead early on but Nelson Sangura’s converted try on the stroke of half time saw Chipu, as the Kenyans are also known, trailed the Young Pumas 14-7 at the interval.
Sustained pressure from the Argentines saw them go 19-7 up but John Ochar beat the Argentine defense to touch down, his unconverted try making it 19-12 and setting the stage for a tense closing.
This was the second time that Chipu has lost to Argentina after having earlier in the tournament lost 32-5.
They also lost 24-0 to France after starting with a 22-12 win over the USA.
The youth Olympic tournament in Nanjing is a ix team tournament that is initially being played on a round robin basis with the top four proceeding to the semi finals and the bottom two facing off in a 5th/6th place playoff.
