Nairobi - Kenya's women's team are relishing the challenge of taking on Cameroon
in their Africa Nations Championships volleyball semi-final at the the
Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Malkia Strikers are firm favourites to advance to the final - where
they will face either Senegal or Algeria - but head coach David Lung’aho
is not underestimating the opposition.
“Cameroon have been improving game by game and it is going to be a fantastic challenge," he told Standarmedia.co.ke
But we are motivated by the fact that we have come up against
stronger teams before and we know how to handle any of our opponents,”
“We have worked on our weaknesses during the rest day and I believe
we can qualify for the finals so long as we remain focused, play to our
potential and give it all.”
Kenyan are in fine form and haven't dropped a set in the championship
yet. The players are highly motivated to reach the final where they are
hoping to win their ninth African title.
“It feels great to have won all our group matches without dropping a single set," said middle blocker Ruth Jepngetich.
"But we will not be carried away by that performance. Our target is
to retain the cup and that is why we are taking one game at a time.”
