Nairobi - Former national cricket captain,Steve Tikolo, has been recalled to the international cricket arena more than two-and-a-half years after he last played for the country. Tikolo was named in the squad that will play in the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE,ESPNcricinfo reports.
The 42-year-old all-rounder,who represented Kenya at 1996, 1999 and 2003 World Cups, has played 134 ODIs and 11 T20's in a career spanning 15 years. His last appearance was during the 2011 World Cup in India. The right-handed batsman scored 3241 runs with a high score of 111 in ODI's. His bowling record is also impressive with 94 wickets in 134 matches, with an economy of 4.81.
Tikolo's biggest achievement in a Kenya shirt when the team progressed to the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup. His captaincy and bowling skills formed a bed-rock on which the team needed to progress in the tournament. Kenya has never claimed test-nation playing status and with the T20 format proving very popular, the Kenya Cricket Association are relying on Tikolo to propel them into the World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh next year.
