Nairobi - The Kenya national rugby sevens team made a good start to the Dubai World sevens series beating Portugal 10-7 in their opening match, Friday.
The Kenyans, playing their first competitive match under new coach Paul Treu, scored the first try of the match through Oscar Ayodi.
Portugal though, hit back through Ricardo Estevez whose try was converted but as they looked to hang on to the win, Collins Injera hit the winning try for Kenya.
Head coach Treu:
" It is good to be back and we wanted to get over that one. It is always
better to win ugly than not at all. It was a good start, and now
hopefully we can get better throughout the day. We are going to set our
own milestones and own targets, it is going to take a while for the guys
to learn the new philosophies, but as I said it's building momentum and hopefully now we can move forward to the Cup quarters.
Kenya next take on France and finally New Zealand in the evening in the group phase.
