Kenya names volleyball team for worlds qualifiers

Nairobi - Kenya on Friday named 14 players in the men's volleyball team for the 2014 World Championships Qualification Tournament set for Kampala, Uganda from July 23 to 28.
The squad that will depart for Uganda on the morning of July 23 will contest the event alongside Tanzania, Burundi and the hosts.
Kenya Volleyball Federation named Wesley Rono, Cornelius Kiplagat, Cornelius Lagat, Alex Kariuki, Daniel Kiptoo, Elisha Aliwa, Philip Maiyo and Ibrahim Oduor to the team.
The squad also includes Saul Wafula, Sila Makiso, James Ontere, Dennis Mokua, Peter Kibata and Mike Chemos and will be reduced to 12 for the event.
Gideon Chenje will lead the team as head coach, with the national women's team preparing for a similar tournament to be held in Nairobi at the same dates already training at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani where it will be staged.
The ladies' team, the reigning African titleholders, are under head coach David Lungaho.
