Kenya loses to US in Hong Kong

27 March 2015, 18:38

Nairobi - Kenya's Sevens team kicked-off their Hong Kong Sevens campaign on a low note as they suffered 21-14 defeat to the USA in their opening game on Friday.

As the lowest ranked nation in their pool, Kenya had high hopes of securing a Cup quarter-final spot, but that will now be far more difficult taks than the coaching staff had thought.

"We are fully aware of our fans' and sponsors' expectations. We must be consistent, improve on the log and avoid flirting with relegation," head coach Felix Ochieng said prior to their opening game.

Kenya still have to take-on England and Wales in their pool matches, which will take place at 6.12 and 10.14 AM Saturday.

The team is currently ranked 12th in the overall standings with 29 points and Wales are just one place above them on 32 points.

USA are seventh with 51 points while England are fifth with 68 points.
