Kenya hunts for Youth Olympics gold

Nairobi - The 24 members of team Kenya will start their hunt for gold
at the Youth Olympic Games on Sunday when the first events take place.
Kenya will take part in athletics, sevens rugby and
weightlifting at the Games, and will be hoping to improve on the three gold and
three bronze medals won at the last Youth Olympics in Singpore in 2010.
Of the 24 team members, 11 will take part in athletics. They
are Jackline Chepkoech, Rosefling Chepngetich, Geoffrey Kipkoech, Anthony
Kiptoo, Amos Kirui, Moses Koech, Winfred Mbithe, Ian Mutuku, Agnes Mulee,
Gilbert Kwemoi and Maureen Thomas.
Kipkoech, Thomas, Mbithe and Chepng’etich represented
competed at the World Youth Championships n Eugene, Oregon in the US last month
where Chepng’etich won silver in the 3000m steeplechase.
There are 12 players in the rugby team that will compete.
They kick-off their challenge in Sunday.
The team members are Daniel Abuonji, Brian Gisemba, Edgar
Khafumi, Lamech Kimutai, Brian Mokua, John Ochar, Alex Olaba, Bill Omondi, Ian
Onyango, Nelson Sangura, Paul Songoi and Keith Wasike.
Evans Sikoto is the last members of team Kenya and will
compete in weighlifting. Sikoto will also start competing on Sunday. While
track and field events start on Wednesday.
