Kenya claims first gold at All Africa Games

14 September 2015, 19:22

Nairobi - Margaret Chelimo claimed Kenya's first gold medal at the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo.

Chelimo ran outstanding race to pip her fellow Kenyans Rosemary Wanjiru and Alice Apro to the gold medal in 5000m event with the East African country completing a one two and three finish.

On her victory, the 5000m champion said that although she won it was an extremely hard race as the lead kept on changing between the three Kenyans throughout the race.

"I am happy to win Kenya's first gold in these games. It was a tight race, but I can celebrate my victory," she explained to supersport.com.

"But I also thank my team mates because they ensured we win all medals."

Elswehere, Clement Kemboi took home gold and silver to again lay down his dominance in the steeplechase event.
