Nairobi - The Africa Cup of Nations Hockey tournament will kick off Monday 18 November 2013 at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi where Kenya's hockey teams will be hoping to make an impression and book a place in the World Cup next year.
Both men and women's teams will participate in the tourney which will not only crown the African champions but also double up as the qualification process for the World Cup.
The 2014 FIH World Cup will be held at the Hague in the Netherlands from May 31 to June 15.
Kenya will be hoping to make an impression in the tourney as they seek a ticket to the World finals but will face stiff competition from defending champions South Africa in both codes.
In the men's category, South Africa, Egypt, Ghana and Kenya will participate, with the women's line-up consisting of South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya.
Kenya women's coach Fidelis Kimanzi knows what to expect from the tourney.
" It will be difficult knowing the level the South Africans usually play at but my side will be competent through out.
On his part the South African women's coach Fabian Gregory was confident of retaining the title they won in Zimbabwe two years ago.
" We have the players and experience to perform well and so we hope to do it consistently.
The first match of the tourney will see Kenya's women take on South Africa on Monday with the men battling Egypt on the same day.
