Nairobi - Kenya Head Coach Jerome Paarwater has welcomed his side's participation
in the 2014 Vodacom Cup but went on to reiterate that the Africa Cup in
Madagascar remains the bigger picture.
Speaking in Nairobi during the official
launch of Kenya Breweries Limited's sponsorship of his team, Paarwater
said, " We are thankful for the sponsorship. Our first job is to go to
the Vodacom Cup and play rugby."
" Our task is to put in strong
performances during the Vodacom Cup, but the end game for us is the CAR
Cup in Madagascar. That is the bigger picture," he added.
Kenya will play in the 2014 as Tusker
Simba XV and open their campaign with a tie against the Eastern Province
Kings on Saturday 8 March and will play six more matches in the
intervening weeks, their final match a tie away to Toyota Free State XV
on Saturday 26 April in Bloemfontein.
The team is using the tournament as
preparation for the 2014 Confederation of African Rugby's Division 1A
championships which take place in Madagascar from 26 June to 6 July. The
winner of this year's championship earns Africa's sole ticket to the
Rugby World Cup scheduled to take place in England in 2015.
