KCB lead the way in rugby's Eric Shirley Shield

30 January 2014, 17:21

Nairobi - KCB Cubs shot to the top of the Eric Shirley Shield log after registering a 33-23 bonus point win over visiting Strathmore Catulus at The Lions Den on Saturday 25 January 2014. They boast a 100% record, having won 10 matches on the trot, picking up 9 bonus points along the way for a total of 49 pts.

Nakuru II beat Quins II 19-12 at the RFUEA Grounds to move up to second place with 48 points, equally boasting a perfect record but with a lower return rate on their bonus points.

Catulus dropped to third as a result of that loss at Ruaraka. They are on 45 points having won 9 and lost 1 of their 10 outings but together with the two teams above them in the log secured of a berth in the semi final playoffs.

Mwamba II stayed fourth after reaping 5 free points and the 24-0 result following Mombasa II's no show. They need to stave off the attentions of Nondies II (35 pts) and Western Bulls (30pts) if they are to seal the final playoff spot.

Defending champions Quins II have all but relinquished the title, their playoff chances taking a further dent when they fell to a 12-19 home defeat to Nakuru II, a loss that sees them 10 points behind Mwamba II who are the current occupants of the fourth position.
