Four new faces in Kenya 15s team to face Portugal

27 May 2015, 15:44

Nairobi - Jerome Paarwater has named four debutants in the Kenya side for Saturday's Test match against Portugal at the RFUEA Grounds.

Emmanuel Mavala has been selected at lock, Sammy Oliech slots in at fullback, Darwin Mukidza starts on the right wing and Jacob Ojee fills the left wing berth.

Paarwater has also named Brian Nyikuli captain for the match, as Wilson Kopondo is unavailable due to academic commitments.

Wangila Simiyu, the team manager, said the game was being used for experimentation and preparation for the more serious encounters to come.

"We are using this match as a preparation for our Rugby Afrique match against Zimbabwe on 13th June. We have given an opportunity to some emerging players as we play against Portugal," he said.

"Wilson Kopondo is unavailable for this tie but is still very much a part of the 30 man squad, as is Kenny Andola who is rested for this encounter.

“Other players including Nick Barasa and Edwin Achayo are still recovering from injury. We call upon fans to turn up in large numbers and rally behind the Simbas on Saturday."

The full squad for Saturday’s game is:

15. Sammy Oliech (Resolution Impala Saracens), 14. Darwin Mukidza (KCB), 13. Fabian Olando (KCB), 12. Kelvin Omiyo (Top Fry Nakuru), 11. Jacob Ojee (KCB), 10. Isaac Adimo (Kenya Harlequin), 9.
