Nairobi - Former 10,000m champion, Wilson Kiprop, has announced intention to quit track and field contests in order to focus on marathons.
Kiprop said he had served the country very well in the 10,000 metres arguing that it was time to shift his focus to road races only.
"I really loved running the 10 000metres, but there is always time comes when one has to pave way for the upcoming generation to do the job," Kiprop said.
The veteran athlete proudly served Kenya in the 10,000 metre races for more than 15 years before his latest announcement.
Kiprop won several accolades in his 15 years of specialising in the long distance field and track races.
Prior to quitting this specialty, Kiprop had won both the Africa and World Half Marathon championships in 2010 thereby putting his name in the history books of Kenya's top long distance runners who excelled for the country.
Kiprop is set to compete at the Ottawa 10km road race scheduled for May 24 in Canada.
