Cherono aims for more medals

Nairobi - Commonwealth Games star Mercy Cherono was brimming with confidence ahead
of the starts of the 19th CAA Africa Senior Athletics Championships in
Marrakech on Sunday.
The Kenyan runner won gold in the 5000m at the Glasgow Games, with
compatriot Janet Kisa taking silver, and expects Kenya to dominate the
middle distance events in Marrakech.
“We did well in Glasgow (Commonwealth Games) and hope to do the same here,” Cherono told the Daily Nation.
“If all goes well, we will bring home many medals and even top the list.”
Caleb Mwangangi took gold in the men’s 5000m in Glasgow and is also a favorite for gold at the Championships.
Jonathan Ndiku, Jairus Birech and Ezekiel Kemboi completed an all
Kenya top three at the in the 3000m steeplechase in Glasgow and could
repeat their performance.
Glasgow silver medalists James Magut and Ronald Kwemoi will lead
Kenya’s charge for medals in the men’s 800m, while Eunice Sum will do
the same in the women’s event. Julius Yego has won gold in the javelin in Glasgow and will hope to repeat the feat.
