Nanjing - Rosefline Chepngetich won the 2000m steeplechase event at
the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China on Monday.
Her time of 6.22.07 was nowhere near her personal best, but
was enough for the 17-year-old to finish well in front of Ethiopia's Zwedenesh
Mamo (6:26.02) and Hungary's Lili Anna Toth (6:31.92).
Chepngetich's gold medal was the second Kenya won at the
Games so far.
Earlier, both Amos Kirui and Winfred Mbithe won silver in
the men's 2000m steeplechase and women's 1,500m races, respectively.
Kirui was unable to match the kick of Ethiopia's Wegebe
Sebsibe (5:38.42) and finished the race in 5:40.29, just in front of Morroco's
Hicham Chemlal (5:40.94).
Mbithe posted a time of 4:17.91 to finish in second place
ahead Abdulkadir Gosa's 4:18.36.
Kokebe Tesfaye won the race in 4:15.38.
