Chager reins in Machakos Rally

03 March 2014, 09:31

Machakos - Baldev Chager powered to his first victory of the season after managing a clean win in the Kenya National Rallying Championship in Machakos.

The Mitsubishi EVO 9 seemed to carry the day coming second and third under the control of Rajbir Rai and Jasmeet Channa.

The rally was flagged off by the Machakos County Governor, Alfred Mutua, outside the Machakos branch of Kenya Commercial Bank.

“We hope that next time year we will have this rally transfer its race to each and every constituency in Machakos,” said Mutua.

The weather was conducive and all the stages were set along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at Ulu, Konza, Kilome, Kapita plains and Salama. The rally organizers had put in place 11 stages in the 173 kilometre long course with the People’s Park of Machakos being the most exciting stage.

Nonetheless, a number of competitors retired early due to different reasons mainly mechanical breakdowns.
Among the contenders who fell out of the course were Issa Amwari in an EVO 9, Waita Nzioka in an EVO 9 and Hardeep Rehsi. Carl Tundo, who won the Malindi Rally in February, also retired earlier in the race due to a blown turbo.
