Bamburi rugby series moves to Kakamega this weekend

02 May 2014, 13:30

Nairobi - Saturday 3 May 2014 brings with it match day two in the Bamburi Rugby Super Series. Two matches are slated to take place at the Kakamega High School grounds, the day's early kick off pitting Papa Nguvu against the varsity lads from UAP Kifaru in Pool B. This will pave way for the day's top draw pitting defending champions Ndovu against Uganda's Victoria Protectors in Pool A.

Papa, who have previously played under the name Lions in past editions in the period running up to 2013, started their 2014 campaign on a winning note, seeing off hosts Hima Rwenzori 25-6 last weekend at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds in Kampala. Augustine Lugonzo was voted man of the match in that game and is expected to lead his charges against a Kifaru side that is very likely to be full of running. Papa will come into this one looking to register a second successive win, a result that will book them a semi final berth while Kifaru come into this tie looking to start their campaign with a win that will boost their semi final qualification hopes at the close of pool play on Saturday 24 May.

This match will pave way for the showstopper, defending champions Ndovu,( an amalgamation of Nakuru, Western Bulls and Kisumu) starting their title defense against Uganda's Victoria Protectors. Ndovu have pitched camp in Kakamaega from Wednesday 30 April, an indicator of how serious they are taking this fixture. They will look to start the campaign with a win.

Victoria find themselves in last chance motel, coming into this fixture with the full knowledge a loss ends whatever interest and ambitions they have in the 2014 tournament.

These fixtures will be broadcast live on Zuku Sports Channel 301.
