All set in Uganda for AFCON club hockey championships

Nairobi - The stage is set for the African club hockey championships set to kick off in Kampala Uganda over the weekend.
Two Egyptian hockey teams arrived in Uganda on Monday ahead of the 2014 Africa Cup for Clubs Hockey Championships.
The men's defending champions Elsharkayya Hockey Team and Egyptian
Hockey Police Team arrived earlier to train and get used to the weather
conditions according Jackie Namyalo, an official at the Uganda Hockey
The African tournament, which will start on Jan. 11, brings together the
top two teams in both genders across leagues on the continent. It is
also recognized as the flagship event of the Africa Hockey Federation.
Namyalo said they expect local clubs; Kampala Hockey Club, Wananchi
Hockey Club (men) and their women's team; Kampala Hockey Club,
Weatherhead Ladies Team and Heartland Flickers Club to put up a good

Uganda was last represented in this event in 2009 by Weatherhead
Hockey Club (women) where they only managed to finish 4th in the event
held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The other foreign teams expected to grace the event include; Union
Bank Sports Hockey Team (Nigeria), Sikh Union, Kenya Police (Kenya),
Trustees Hockey Club, Golden Sticks (Ghana) for the men, while the women
will have Orange, Strathmore (Kenya), Ghana Revenue Authority (Ghana),
Heartland Flickers (Nigeria) and Tanzania's Hockey Club Twende.
