All set for national athletics meet

29 May 2014, 09:12

Nairobi - All roads will next week lead to the country's home of sport - Nyayo Stadium -where the national athletics championships will take place.

The event is scheduled for June 5 to 6.

Kenya Athletics (AK) have lined up various races to be contested ranging from 400m, 800m. 5000m to 10 000m.

The national athletics championships will be used as a yardstick to measure Kenya's capabilities ahead of crucial international competitions where the East African nation seeks to dominate following the Bahamas success story.

Several top athletes have confirmed their participation, among them the history making Bahamas record breaking runners - Stephen Barasa, Sylvia Chesebe and Silas Kiplagat

Other big names to feature in next week's national championships are Africa's Cross Country bronze medallist Timothy Kiptoo and his Olympic 5000m bronze medallist Thomas Longosiwa.

Though the organisers did not reveal the prize money at stake, but judging from the calibre of names in the competition tells a story in which huge incentives could be readily available.
