AK postpone Beijing trials

23 June 2015, 12:11

Nairobi - Athletics Kenya AK has decided to postpone trials for the World Championships in Beijing later this year as it coincides with IAAF Diamond League meets in Paris and Monaco.

The AK vice president, David Okeyo, has admitted that he understands his athletes need to have an income and will be sacrificing a large amount of money if they choose not compete in the IAAF Diamond League.

The vice president also thinks that it will provide the athletes plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming trials.

"We have to consider that the Diamond League is also important to our athletes to make money as they prepare for the World Championships," Okeyo told standardmedia.co.ke.

"That is why we agreed to forward the event by a week so that our athletes can head to Paris and Monaco for the Diamond League."
