Windows Start button may make a comeback

01 May 2013, 11:09

Nairobi - Microsoft is planning to resurrect the Start button familiar to the traditional Windows operating system.

According to a report on the Verge, the software giant is planning a return to the Start button it killed with the launch of Windows 8.

The next update, Windows 8.1, according to sources will have the Start button modelled on the new Windows logo on the Desktop application and it will allow users to gain instant access to the Start Menu.

Windows 8 was a departure from the traditional OS in that the company pivoted its software to cater for mobile devices like tablets and smartphones.

Microsoft followed through on this thinking with mobile focused versions of its popular Office suite of applications.

It is also reported that Windows 8.1 will allow an option to boot directly to the desktop, as opposed to the Start Menu in Windows 8.

The changes may be good news for users who find Windows 8 difficult to navigate and may see a spike in adoption of the new OS, when it is launched.
