Schoolgirls invent 'pee power' generator

Nigeria - Four girls from Nigeria have demonstrated ingenuity by inventing a generator that is powered by urine.
The girls from Laos in Nigeria have invented a machine that works by extracting nitrogen from the urea and feeding into a generator to produce electricity, The Next Web reported.
Fourteen year-olds Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola, Faleke Oluwatoyin, and 15-year-old Bello Eniola produced the generator and though details of its output are vague, it is estimated that around 1l of urine results in six hours of electricity production.
According to scientists at the University of the West of England, Bristol, it is possible to produce electricity from urine.
If the device that the girls have produced can pass scientific scrutiny, the potential benefits are huge and will change perceptions of urine as a waste product.
"The impact of this could be huge, since it enables us to think of 'waste' in a new way, and offers great potential for the future," said Dr Ioannis Ieropoulos of the university regarding the principle of using urine to generate electricity.
