New mobile streaming offering launched

Nairobi - Technology firm, Rapid Communication, has launched a new mobile streaming platform that offers an end-to-end video streaming that enables users to manage content on internet-enabled devices.
The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Anwar Hussein, said the offering, Vooka, cane amid the proliferation of mobile phones and rapid changes in cellular phone technology, which he said had changed the consumer landscape.
The new technology will be accessible to users with Edge and 3G enabled mobile and smart phones. The advantage is that users will be able to dedicate, stream, download, share, upload, create playlist and comment and like videos.
It further creates multiple profiles of each uploaded video, detects user bandwidth and delivers the most suitable video to the user bandwidth that allows a continuous playback.
The Vooka technology will be available to all the subscribers on local networks Airtel, Safaricom and Yu Mobile. The service will attract a KES 2 ($0.022) while video downloads will be charged at KES 10 ($0.11).
The service will require that one fill in their in a bid to assist in the parental control of content.
Some video content will not open to under-age subscribers.
Vooka content come in different categories that is, movies, videos, live TV, documentaries and lastly breaking news
“Vooka takes a special place of pride within our product stable and we will be concentrating on African content making it the first of its kind produced and managed in Africa,” said Hussein.
