Matiang’i, Waita lined up for top tech event in SA

27 August 2014, 08:24

Nairobi - Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Dr Fred Matiang’i, is lined up to deliver keynote address at Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA) Mobile 360 Series-Africa conference in November.

The event is scheduled for Cape Town in South Africa.

Nzioka Waita, the Corporate Communications Manager at Safaricom, has also been confirmed to deliver a keynote address at the conference.

The two will be the only Kenyan representatives at the prestigious conference convened by London-based GSMA.

GSMA announced the first keynote speakers for the conference, including executives from organizations such as the Alliance for Affordable Internet, Econet Zimbabwe, Facebook, inVenture, Lumos, MTN Group, Opera Software, Safaricom, Samsung and Standard Bank among others.

Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA said that the conference would mainly discuss mobile connectivity.

“Mobile connectivity is already playing a key role in inclusion of the underserved in many African countries and Mobile 360-Africa will convene key stakeholders to examine the practical steps which can be taken to help overcome critical roadblocks in technology, governance, business models and investment,” said O’Hara.

The GSMA’s Mobile 360 Series-Africa is the third in a series of four regional industry-focused events held in major cities across the world.

GSMA’s interest in Africa is based on the continent’s high growth of mobile subscribers.

“Sub-Saharan Africa’s unique mobile subscriber base has grown by 18 per cent annually over the last five years, making it the fastest growing region globally, and we are looking forward to celebrating this dynamic and diverse market through a great agenda supported by C-level speakers from across this exciting region,” said O’Hara.
