LG executive caught damaging Samsung products

05 September 2014, 14:16

Seoul - An executive at South Korean electronics firm LG was questioned by police in Germany after damaging products made by rival Samsung in a Berlin mall, a news report said on Thursday.

The executive was captured by CCTV damaging the doors of four Samsung washing machines in an electronics shop in the well-known Europa-Center mall, Yonhap News Agency reported.

LG denied accusations that the executive, who was not named, had deliberately vandalised the products.

"The executive was only checking Samsung's washing machines as their doors were shaking when the shop clerks accused him of damaging the products," an LG Electronics official was quoted as saying.

"It is just one of those common incidents that occur ahead of electronics shows."

German police dropped the case after the executive agreed to buy the damaged products, Yonhap said.

The incident came just days before the start of the IFA 2014 electronics show in Berlin on September 5, where the two South Korean firms are due to present competing gadgets, including their latest smartwatch and tablet devices.

Samsung claims that LG employees have also damaged products in another branch of the same electronics chain in Berlin, and would investigate further, Yonhap said.
