Cape Town - The ANC has admitted that its website has been taken down after a hack attack on Friday.
A group calling itself Africa Anonymous claimed to carry out a DDOS (Distributed denial of service) attack on the page which was unavailable from 10:00 on Friday morning.
"We've had similar situations before where our website has been hacked," spokesperson Keith Khoza told News24.
He said that the party would carry our an investigation to determine the origin of the attack.
"As the ANC what we will investigate who is behind this and see what recourse we have at our disposal."
Africa Anonymous took down IOL, the online division of Independent Newspapers on Wednesday for an article in support of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe.
It followed that action up with an attack on the Herald newspaper on Thursday.
Khoza slammed the group for limiting the ANC's freedom of speech.
"This is not the first time where we are confronted with this situation that people who want to claim to be democrats or who want to claim that they believe in freedom of expression are the ones who start tampering with our communications platforms."
