Various Jubilee legislators had expressed interest in the seat, including Senator Mike Sonko and nominated MP Johnson Sakaja.
Sonko had earlier said that he would join the race with or without the President’s approval.
"Even if leaders from my Jubilee party that is led by President Kenyatta support me or not, I will go for the top County seat, "said Sonko.
"Leaders don't vote. I don't need anyone's endorsement. It is the Nairobi County voters who will decide at the ballot," he added.
